Announce the end of a farm stand or market season

Give the final selling and collection dates, explain any remaining order opportunities, and say what happens to the update list afterward. Avoid promising next season's dates before they are confirmed.

Separate the final sale from the final pickup

A farm may stop taking orders before its last collection, or finish one market while keeping the stand open. List those milestones separately. Customers should not have to infer whether ‘season ends Sunday’ means they can still buy or only collect an existing order.

Check deposits, containers, and uncollected orders through your normal private process. The general season notice can remind customers of a shared return arrangement without publishing who owes what or treating every subscriber as a member.

Before you send

  1. Confirm the last order cutoff, sale date, and final pickup window.
  2. List only the remaining stock or sales you can fulfill.
  3. Explain container returns or collection contact routes where applicable.
  4. State whether off-season updates continue and how subscribers can change preferences.

Message examples to adapt

These are original examples. Replace bracketed details and check every promise before using them.

Final farm-stand weekend

Subject: [Farm] final stand weekend: [dates]

Our farm stand's final opening this season is [dates and hours] at [location]. Remaining availability is shown at [route]. Final confirmed pickups are [date and window]. After that, [off-season arrangement]. Next season's dates are not yet confirmed; we will announce them through [topic].

Market season ending

Subject: Last [Farm] appearance at [market] on [date]

Our final [market] appearance this season is [date, hours]. [Confirmed products or order deadline]. Existing orders and [container returns] follow [details]. Our list will cover [off-season scope]; use your preference link if you only want future market announcements.

Keep off-season expectations honest

Do not fill the quiet period with unrelated messages because the list exists. Send only the off-season information you described, or wait until there is a useful confirmed update.

When the next season approaches, confirm the opening arrangements before inviting travel. Recheck subscriber topics and public pages so last year's final-date notice does not conflict with the new plan.

Common questions

Should I delete the list after the season?

Keep opt-outs and preferences intact. If the list's agreed scope includes future seasons, use it for those relevant announcements rather than starting over indiscriminately.

Can I announce a tentative reopening?

Label it as tentative and give a confirmation plan. Do not present an estimate as a confirmed opening date.

Put this into practice

Use your farm topics for the final confirmed dates and future season announcements that match customers' chosen interests.
