Limited menu announcement examples for a cafe or food seller

Say which menu or service is limited, list the usable options, and give the period the notice covers. Send customers to the current menu rather than leaving them to discover unavailable items after arrival.

Make the remaining choice visible

‘Limited menu today’ can mean no hot food, fewer lunch dishes, or one unavailable ingredient. Describe the scope. If a short list remains, show it; if the options change through the day, link to a current menu you will maintain.

Check existing preorders before announcing. A reduced public menu does not automatically change a confirmed order, and substitutions need the buyer's context. Keep those arrangements private.

Before you send

  1. Confirm which service and items are affected.
  2. Verify the remaining menu and its current ordering route.
  3. Give full dates or a definite next-update time.
  4. Check existing orders and update counter or online menus first.

Message examples to adapt

These are original examples. Replace bracketed details and check every promise before using them.

Reduced service for one day

Subject: [Business] serving [available menu] on [date]

On [date], our [location] offers [available items / service], but [unavailable items] will not be available. Opening hours remain [hours]. The current menu is at [link]. Existing preorder questions should go to [contact]. We will confirm the regular menu's return by [time].

Temporary menu period

Subject: Temporary [Business] menu from [date]

From [start] through [end / next update], we will serve the reduced menu at [link] during [service window]. [Affected service] is paused. Please check current options before visiting for a particular item. Your confirmed order follows its own arrangement through [contact route].

Confirm normal service by item or service

When the full menu returns, check the ordering page and actual stock before announcing it. If only part returns, name that part rather than claiming normal service.

Watch customer questions at the counter. If people still expect the unavailable meal, improve the sign where they choose or order, not just the email wording.

Common questions

Should I list unavailable items or available items?

Start with the usable choices, then name important missing items regulars may expect. For a large changing menu, maintain a current link.

Can I promise a substitute is suitable for everyone?

No. Use verified product information and handle customer-specific requirements through your normal process.
